“Archiving Voices and Expressions” at Gurusaday Museum

Kolkata, March 28: Environmental Art and Chander Haat organized an exhibition of art in Gurusaday Museum at Joka Bratachari Gram. Gurusaday Dutta, the founder of Bengal Bratachari Society also planned of this Bratachari Gram. In the museum, there is an archive of folk and contemporary arts. This time curator Probir Gupta projected an exhibition, “Archiving Voices and Expressions”. So many artists from folk segment to contemporary thinker invested their imagination to make the project a success. Apart of Probir Babu, the artists like Bhabatosh Sutar; Aloke Shome was also a part of it. Gita Karmakar, China Paul, Gurupada Sarkar, Mahamaya Sikdar, Kashmiran Tahir, ‘Potua’ Bapi Chitrakar, Tarun Dey along with foreigners Tarje Eikanger Gullaksen and Martijn de Rooj also have been contributed their artworks in the exhibition. “We are trying hard to empower of the folk and tribal artists of Bengal that’s why we are doing this and we also are experimenting to have a fusion of folk and contemporary arts”, said curator Probir Gupta.

Ritu And Roni Paired Up For “Pati Parameshwar” After 14 Years Of "Paromitar Ekdin"

Kolkata, March 28: Débutante Director Jayashree Bhattacharya is all set to come with her project “Pati Parameshwar”. Jayashree had earlier assisted Rituparno Ghosh in “Subho Muhurat”, “Chokher Bali” and “Dosar”. After “Paromitar Ekdin” in 2000, Rajatava Dutta and Rituparna Sengupta have been paired up for the film. Jayashree said, “The film is about the feelings between husband and wife from ‘just married’ status and then on. The story actually revolves around the lost of a pet dog owned by Sharmila (Rituparna) and she blames her husband, Officer-In-Charge of local police station, Arindam (Rajatava) for not paying so much attention to find her dog. This leads some hilarious incidents.” Rajatava Dutta said that, “It is my pleasure to work with both Jayashree and Ritu. I am doing husband of Ritu after a long 14 years and it will be a great fun to work with the team. Personally I am a fan of Jayashree as I already have seen her telefilms and also collected the copies from her husband. So, I rely on her in the matter of making a feature film.” In a recent announcement programme Rituparna Sengupta shared her experience by saying that, “Jayashree is debutante but her confidence level is envious. She is very confident about her work and I also think that the film will come up with a great success. Actually these days, fresh comedy film without some dual meaning is not happening and from this aspect, “Pati Parameshwar” is different. It will be very fun to portray the wife of Roni after ‘Paromitar Ekdin’, a long time ago.” Subhraneel Biswas penned the story while Surojit Chatterjee composed the music and Sankaraiyaa directed the dance sequences. Rahul Arunoday Banerjee, Biswanath Basu, Kanchana Moitra, Dwijen Banerjee also teamed up for the film along with Sudipta Chakraborty and Rudraneel Ghosh in guest appearances.

'BASANTIKA' - City Basontotsav With Shantiniketan Flavour

Kolkata, March 24: Manoj Murli Nayar with his “DaakGhar” and Madhubani Chatterjee with her “Jahnabi” have organized ‘BASANTIKA’, a pure Basontotsav with Shantiniketan flavour in our busy city. In Deshapriya Park, Sabuj Patro organizes a beautiful programme of cultural expression. Eminent culture personality Srikanta Acharya, Mamata Shankar, Sudeshna Roy, Bratati Bandyopadhyay, Iman Chatterjee, Avijit Guha and beautician Keya Seth have been graced the programme with their presence and performance. Madhubani Chatterjee and Manoj Murli Nayar also performed with the kids.

Fire-Fliers 2014 In Kolkata

Kolkata, March 22: ‘FIREFLIES’ a fashion and lifestyle exhibition held in Taj Bengal Hotel, organized by four friends Priti, Saloni, Sneha and Shilpi. The exhibition is an encouragement for all the young and fresh talent in fashion and glamour arena while the unique collections of renowned designer have been showcased equally.

Products at display were varies from jewellery and clothes to footwear and home decor items. Special stalls were set up to cater to kids’ products. A huge range of Indian and international brands catering to men’s and women’s products were also featured at the exhibition. This time the organisers gave platform to two NGO’s like Aarham and Karmyog, to showcase their causes & concerns to an audience which can help make a difference.

Speaking at the occasion, Team Fireflies said, “We have roped in a lot of fresh and promising talent for the show this time. Since we always ensure that our upcoming shows are better than the previous ones, visitors can be assured of a fresh range of lifestyle products and home decor items. We have something for everybody and don’t want anyone to go back empty handed. This time, we are going that extra mile to ensure that everybody who visits the exhibition goes back with a bag of purchases in hand.”

The famous designers who showcased their creation were – JattinnKochhar, AbhishekDutta, Lopamudra Mandal Saha, Ashfaq Ahmad, Agnimitra Paul, Swati Vijayvargie Jain, Neha Panda and lots more.

While Hena Nafis gave some consultation on Child obesity and kids eating disorders, Arti Sultania had some mind blowing ‘Out of the box’ accessories collection for children and Abhishek Dutta showcased his new line on kids’ apparel – “AD Lil by Abhishek Dutta”; Lopamudra Mandal Saha and her Studio Eye showcased a new range of easy to carry dresses with a range of jewellery items.

Film Review: PATHGHAT

I have seen the movie ‘Path-Ghat’ in the releasing show and from then on I started thinking of a review of the film but every time I picked up my pen to write I have suffered uncanny feelings. I have been taught from my childhood that, it is impossible to say 100% positive or 100% negative. Because there is a saying that everywhere there is something positive. Unfortunately, it takes 10 long days to me to find that little bit of positive and now I am ready to get down the review.

The film started with a fresh looks while a television channel team decides to go to Dooars for a shoot to improve their TRP. Seven musketeers, Ravi (Joy Sengupta), Meghla (Moubani Sorcar), Nani (Riya Ganguly), Subir, Babu and Apps. On their way to North Bengal they lose their way and met a trafficked girl Lima who escapes from the place. After the very moment the film started behaving like a Chhuchobaazi. No one knows where the script leads the audiences thereafter. Faiz Khan as the police inspector is likely there as executive producer. Lady Director of photography Sonali Sarkar tried hard and the camera work is not so bad.

Suvom Moitra’s music is a torture to the extreme. He composed “Ei raat tomar amar”, a classic Bengali song in a nasal tone that portrays his disrespect for the song. The lyricist I think is the brand ambassador of perversion. Otherwise it is impossible to write the lines:“Samotol theke pahari rasta/ Jekhane gechhe tomar buk;/Narom kotore royechhe lukiye/hingshro amar bhaari mukh..../Eki amar paoa paromsukh...../Eki amar Jounosukh.” Director Partha Ganguly gladly encourages the song by making baddy Bijen (Debdoot Ghosh) a symbol of Srikrishna enjoying the Jounosukh with feather in head. Lyrics also state that, “Dulchhe krishna, dulchhe radha, dulchhe amaar utsomukh”.

The script is the ridiculous most I have seen. No one of the actor has done a justice in their role as the script except Moubani Sorcar honestly tried to act properly but the support system of the script collapses. Newcomer Riya Ganguly acted as eye-candy with some short dresses. The makers of the film tried to present the film as a black comedy thriller but I am sorry to say that, they have no idea about what the black comedy is. As a whole a worst experience of entertainment.
