"THE BEST SELLER" - Suman Maitra Reinvented Dark Kolkata

Kolkata, April 01: Suman Maitra, the ‘Dashami’ fame director coming up with his next film “The Best Seller”. This time Suman doesn’t dive for star cast while last time in ‘Dashami’, he directed Indraneil Sengupta and Koel Mallick. After the critical appreciation of ‘Dashami’, Suman now wants to tell the story behind the colourful city; the black back-drop of Kolkata will be portrayed in the film. A trivia is that, the film tentatively titled as “City Of Joy” in the initial stage but then the title has been changed during the making of the film because “The Best Seller” seems more appropriate from the script-view.  Suman admits, “I actually tried to make the film in Hindi because the characters and place I have chosen this time is non-Bengali centric. The slangs they used also are in Hindi and if I use it in Bengali, it may become irrelevant.”  He also said that, “The same thing comes in my mind that, if I go for bigger stars in my film then it will hamper the relevancy of the script. But I also needed some good actors, so I have chosen all the theatre actors; they all are awesome actor honestly. They made me feel that they are the perfect casting for my project.” Producer Saibal Ganguly said that, “I have a long term faith in Suman and I am eager already to produce his next too. Suman is a director of that kind who has a strong voice that what he wants and can do the miracle with non-famous actors too. “
The story is about two sisters Anu (Wrishita Mukherjee) and Ayesha (Malobika Banerjee); who are the part of the infamous red-light area of the city and story revolves with them entirely. Their struggle, their endeavor all became the part of the movie and it will re-open that dark sides of the city which we are tried to avoid always. The sorrowful moment of the city of joy is being written by Suman in celluloid. Not only the red-light area life but Suman also drags the Child-Narcotics in a very straight cut manner. He actually used the street child for the real life shoot and that makes the film a larger than life perspective.
The music of the film have been composed by Rana Sarkar and the songs penned by Amitaditya Sanyal. Film also stars Saumen Bhaumik, Tathagata Mukherjee too.
